East Kentwood remains in the hunt for back-to-back OK Red boys basketball titles after beating Muskegon on Saturday.
The win ups the Falcons to 9-2 in the conference with three games left. East Kentwood (14-2 overall) is tied for first with Rockford and will play the Rams on Feb. 21.
Falcons coach Jeff Anama, whose team is unbeaten at home, said the final two weeks of the regular season is looking bright.
“We’re finally getting all our guys together,” Anama said. “We’ve had a lot of guys step up. – that’s why we’ve done so well. Now we’re coming home and we’re excited for the stretch.”
Muskegon led 14-13 after one quarter, but the Falcons outscored the Big Reds 17-8 in the second period. East Kentwood’s Melvin Harris scored eight of his 15 points in the second quarter.
Tavon Robinson had 14 and Myles Robinson 12 for East Kentwood.
Travell Oakes had 11 for Muskegon, which drops to 8-9 and 4-7.
Anama said the Falcons rebounded better in the second half after giving up six offensive rebounds in the first 16 minutes.
“They’re a dangerous team because they do rebound,” Anama said. “Almost all their points in the first half came after they missed a shot. But we were much better in the second half.”
