Game Recap

The East Kentwood Girls basketball team bounced back big from their loss to Catholic Central, beating South Christian by a score of 80-29.

The Lady Falcons played outstanding defense and seemed to be firing on all cylinders, with four players finishing in double figures. Sophomore Mauriya Barnes led the way scoring 25 points, shooting 6-8 behind the 3 point arc. Barnes also added 3 assists and 5 steals to the night. Fellow sophomore Alana Blackwell contributed 15 points and 3 assist.

Senior Amari Brown added 11 points, 2 assists and 2 steals. Lazurea Saunders had another solid performance adding 10 points, 3 steals and 1 blocked shot, while senior Anaya Powell contributing 9 points and 4 steals.

The Lady Falcons look to continue their winning ways against Forest Hills Central on Friday, December 9th at home.

East Kentwood lost a hard fought game to a very good Catholic Central team, 50-58. The Lady Falcons hung close but were unable to pull out the win.

East Kentwood was lead by Lazurea Saunders with 18 points, 5 rebounds and 2 steals.. Mauriya Barnes added 9 points while Andraya Johnson chipped in 8 points 6 rebounds and 3 assists.

East Kentwood Girls opened up the 2016-17 season with a strong win over Grand Rapids Christian, 52-43. Leading the way for the Lady Falcons were Mauriya Barnes and Taia Smith with 11 points followed by Amari Brown with 10 points, 12 rebounds and Lazurea Saunders added another 9 points and 8 rebounds.

Game Recap

East Kentwood bounced back from a tough loss on Friday night to beat Lapeer West 8-2 at the OK conference vs Saginaw Valley showcase. Kentwood was lead by several goal scorers. Kyle Boring had 2, Harrison Plummer, Alex Randall, Bryce Hansen, Ethan Fritts, Bennett Gray, Louis Schultz all chipped in with a goal a piece. For Schultz, Fritts and Gray it was there first high school goal. Colin Borowiak had 3 assists and Trevor Stepehenson got the win in net for the falcons saving 25 out of 27 shots.

Game Recap

East Kentwood lost a tough one to the Bay City wolves 5-2 at the Kentwood Ice Arena. Kentwood out shot the wolves 31-20 but could only muster 2 goals. Travis Raible scored a power play goal to tie it at 1-1 in the 1st period and scored the equalizer again 2-2 in the second. Kaleb Long started tonight in net for the falcons and turned away 16 out of 20 shots he faced. The falcons go back at again tomorrow afternoon against Lapeer West in the OK Conference vs Saginaw Valley Conference showcase at Lakeshore Ice arena in Muskegon. The falcons record now stands at 2-2 on the season.

Game Recap

East Kentwood won back to back Falcon Classic Tournaments with a 6-4 win over Macomb Dakota. Kentwood jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead by goals from Travis Raible, Alex Randall and Bryce Hansen. Kentwood added to the lead in the second and got goals from Kyle Boring and Brandon Love to make it 5-0. Macomb Dakota made it close in the 3rd period and got within a goal at 5-4 but Brady Strabel scored an empty net goal with 14.2 seconds to seal the championship for the Falcons. The was filled with penalties and neither team got any flow to the game. Kentwood ended up with 3 power play goals and a short handed goal while Macomb Dakota also scored 2 power play goals. Trevor Stephenson and Brady Strabel were Co-Mvps of the tournament. Trevor with a key conference win and stopping 72 shots and Brady with 7 points during the two game tournament. Kentwood’s next game will be home next Friday against Bay City at 6:30pm and Kentwood Ice Arena.

Game Recap

In the opening game of the Falcon Classic Tournament the East Kentwood Falcons came up a with a huge win against the Rockford Rams 7-4. This win puts East Kentwood at 1-1 on the seasons and 1-0 in the conference. The Falcons took the play to the Rams for the first two periods and had a 3-0 lead going into the 3rd period. 2 Goals by Bradey Strabel and a goal by Travis Raible put EK early. In the 3rd period goals by Alex Randall (2), Kyle Boring (2) put the falcons up 7-1 a lead they wouldn’t relinquish. Trevor Stephenson lead the Falcons in net with 33 saves. Next up for the Falcons will be the winner of Portage Northern and Macomb Dakota at 4:00pm November 26th.
